Just read on the web about the Save Victoria Baths group and how they are being side lined by Nottingham City Council. One of the City’s Leisure Centres is Victoria Leisure Centre, an old Victorian building in a deprived part of Nottingham that has been allowed to rot away. The City Council tried to close it down earlier in the year, until this was met by howls of protest from local people and people regularly using the centre. One of the reasons given was that it didn’t meet Disability Discrimination Act standards. This was knocked down by two people who swim there most days and use wheelchairs. Both said Victoria swimming pool is used by other wheelchair users, and that most of them would be unable to travel to other pools.
The City Council then back tracked and agreed either to spend money upgrading the Leisure Centre or to build a new centre. They also agreed to work with the Save Victoria Baths Group on this. Now it looks like they are side lining them, not including them in crucial meetings and not giving them the information they request.
