It is rare to come across a sporting team who accept publicly that they played terribly in a game. The extract of a posting below was written in 2006, but I was so struck by the tone of the comments that I decided to post it.
“We had to accept justified criticism following our 4-1 Elite League ice hockey defeat at Nottingham Panthers.
Personally, I was terrible. And we just did not put our game together at all.
We can make excuses about it being Christmas and we are all away from home, or that there was little chance to skate over the holiday. But we have to accept we were below par.
A lot of guys did not play as they can. And that’s simply not on.”
