Alan Simpson calls for BBC to sack Brand and Ross

A local MP has called for Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand to be sacked over their behaviour on a TV show. I haven’t seen the show myself, and it may be that these presenters should be sacked; however I think it makes MP’s look foolish when they get involved in issues like this.

Shouldn’t Alan Simpson MP have bigger issues to worry about? For example, the £42 million that Nottingham City Council invested in Icelandic banks but does not yet know if it will be able to recover.

The extracts below are about the questionable actions of Joanthan Ross and Russell Brand.

“NOTTINGHAM South MP Alan Simpson has joined calls for the BBC to sack Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand. The move comes after the pair left lewd messages on former Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs’ answerphone during a Radio 2 show.

The messages claimed that Brand had slept with Sachs’ granddaughter, Georgina Baillie, 23…

Mr Simpson said: “It is entirely understandable that the public should be appalled at the gross, tasteless and offensive behaviour of the two BBC presenters in respect of broadcasted comments on the Radio 2 programme. Attention so far has focused on the responsibilities of the BBC in allowing this to be broadcast two days after it was recorded.

The real issue, however, is in the nature of the abusive and offensive comments made by the presenters and left on Andrew Sachs’ answer phone.

In any other walk of life, an employee found responsible for making such comments as part of their work would be subject to instant dismissal. There would be no defence against the charge of gross professional misconduct. The employment contract would be immediately terminated.

The key question is why the BBC has not done precisely this with Mssrs Ross and Brand.”
