Unemployment hits 11-year high

A story below talks about the increase in unemployment. I think this is going to get worse over the coming months. I have 3 friends who have recently been made redundant from Roseby’s and Capital One.

“The number of unemployed people is the highest in 11 years, according to figures out today.

The total of 1.82 million out of work between July and September was an increase of 154,800 on the same period a year ago, and the highest total since the end of 1997. It means the unemployment rate now stands at 5.8%, the highest since 2000.

The figures from the Office for National Statistics also showed that in the East Midlands the number of unemployed people rose to 135,000, or a rate of 5.9%. This is 0.2% higher than in the same period last year.”
