Hospital payout after baby death

“A HOSPITAL trust has paid £10,000 to the family of a baby girl who died nine days after being sent home from the Queen’s Medical Centre. Nottingham University Hospitals admitted four-month-old Ellie Behan should not have been discharged.

But a lack of communication between hospital staff meant the seriousness of her condition was not picked up, an inquest heard. Ellie, of Woodfield Road, Broxtowe Estate, became critically ill with a rare bowel condition a day after being discharged.

She had been seen vomiting green liquid by nurses at the hospital’s short-stay children’s ward – a sign of serious illness. But this was not passed on to the doctor, who discharged her only an hour later.”
