“This was on the road leading from the city centre to Radford Road. Violence is quite a big deal in Nottingham, especially against the city’s ever-increasing student population. One of the reasons students get beaten up so often is because a lot of the places where they settle used to be home to factories and working class communities.
The factories all got knocked down because foreign imports are making them financially unviable and so people lost their jobs, their homes and now live in abject poverty.
Seeing Jeremy the media student walking home at night with an iPod to a modern flat built over ruins of where generations of your family sweated blood to make a living and were kicked onto the dole to make way for a load of students so your dad can work part time as a cleaner at the uni is just too irresistible a target for many locals.”
