Neglected park is in shocking state

A letter in Nottingham’s Evening Post complains about the state of Highfield Park.

“In response to HWhyte (Your Views, April 6), I among many would like to know why money was invested by the city council instead of being used on the upkeep of Highfields. That is what the money is for, not for what the council sees fit to do with it.

Myself, daughter and grandson visited the park last Sunday and were utterly disgusted how run down the park is.

The smell and rubbish in the lake was terrible, the boats were in the middle of the island full of fighting Canada Geese, Rubbish strewn everywhere, all over the park, everything overgrown.

Highfields used to be a beautiful park where people have enjoyed going. It has also attracted visitors from abroad.

The park belongs to the people of Nottingham, a gift from Sir Jesse Boot as everyone knows.”
