Terrible Nottingham hotels

Trip Advisor has a lot of bad reviews about hotels in Nottingham. There seems to be more awful hotels in Nottingham than I would expect. I have reproduced some comments from reviewers below to give you an idea of how bad some places are.

“stains on the floor, wall and ceiling, and there were dead flies in the draws (sic)”

“I was greeted with the aroma of raw sewage…The wallpaper was hanging off by the windows, paint was flaking off, and there was a massive patch of mould behind the toilet. In the shower, in order to waterproof it, the owners have put lino on the walls.”

“one of our party woke up with several bed bug bites over her legs and feet.”

“mouldy ceilings & smelly bathrooms. Uncomfortable bed & noisy corridors”

“The blind in the bathroom was minging, in various shades of nicotine and mildew.”

“The room was cold -no heating, The window was jammed open. I Was freezing all night. The bed was damp i had to put towels on it. The bedding and pillows smelled.”

“The corridoors were damp and smelly. The carpet was stained. Our room had a broken window which was still in place…There was a backwash of sewage everytime we flushed the toilet, turned on the taps, or used the shower.”

I’m not sure why you would expect to find low numbers of sub-standard hotels in the city. It’s a big place and there will undoubtedly be a significant number that fall below acceptable standards… just like any big city

Having said that, I’m surprised by the comments you’ve highlighted and I hope the people concerned didn’t just content themselves with putting a review on Trip Advisor but also complained to the hotel at the time and refused to pay all, or part, of their bill.

But some of the hotels sound dreadful. Unfortunately some of reviewers had paid in advance and when they tried to get their money back couldn’t. Indeed some said if they hadn’t paid in advance, they would not have stayed at the hotel.
