Thong Shock

A father has complained after he and his child witnessed runners from the Men’s Union Rugby Club apprently taking part in an initiation ceremony that involved running around Highfields Park and the surrounding area wearing thongs.

Mr Trusson, an ex-student of the university now living in Beeston, said: “I was out for a run with my son in the Highfields Park and had to pass two dozen students wearing nothing except thongs and hitched-up and hitched-down underpants.

“I felt like asking them if they would be sharing this news of their new life at university with their mothers and grandmothers.

“I’m not a prude, but I actually felt repulsed and offended by this public display in the afternoon – more so when they caught up with me and my son whilst we were waiting to cross University Boulevard at rush hour.

“Am I alone in thinking that this is shameful behaviour that damages the reputation of the university and our society in general
